Untitled

This is one of my latest paintings...
it all started because of a mistake and ugliness of something else I was doing in that piece of paper.
I was originally planning on doing some kind of abstraction, just some shapes and color.
When I first started to put paint to it,I immediately noticed that it was not going to work,it was the most horrendous thing I've ever seen!
well, that was a downer and I really didn't know what to do.
looked and looked at it until I decided to discard it...but...wait a minute! there's some white paper I can use!
as you can see, there are some pencil lines that are visible and two of the 3 vertical drops where already on the paper.
So, I decided to draw a simple bowl and I painted it...very simple;but I thought that it was probably a good idea to add something else...it was scrap paper anyway.
So,I looked on my files and found the photos of my little metal frog. I took those photos a while ago and never got to use them,so that was my addition to it and I liked it!
again,it is very simple, but from now on...I'll think twice before throwing or discarding a piece of paper that I  might be able to do something with.
This is a 12" x10" painted on cold pressed (arches) and it was finished on Feb. the 10th. '17

This is also one of my "old" watercolours...
it was painted last year but I didn't post it before for a number or reasons. first,I wasn't sure if I was going to leave it as is...or;if I wanted to keep working on the background!
as there's so much going on with the boards and the strong color of the pot,I decided to leave it alone.
it is based on a photograph that I took in a small area where  the pots and garden tools are.
I just loved the strong Orangy-Pinky color of the small pot. I also liked the shape of the tall bucket  and was playing with the composition and the light.
The Red "reflection" on the metal bucket might've been a little bit exaggerated but I kind of like it!
I had a hard time drawing the sketch but once the drawing was done, that's when the fun begun!
it is a 14" x20" painted on my favorite surface,Arches (cold pressed) and it was finished on Dec. '16

This is a watercolour that I painted last year.
it was inspired by the severe drought that was affecting California. fortunately, this winter was stormy and rainy and it seems like the drought will not be affecting the state for a while.
I had the idea for a long time but I really wasn't sure how to approach the subject. as I'm not really a landscape painter and I wasn't sure where and how to start.
when I finally decided to start working on it,I used a small section of a photograph that was published in our local news paper as a reference for the landscape. It looks like a canyon but it's not really the way the originally picture looked.
the faucet was always part of my idea and I knew it has to be included,I was trying to do something somehow surrealist and different. it was actually a lot easier than I thought and I'm very pleased with it...wanting to do something different I pasted the original 12" x 16"on to a bigger sheet of paper but...my crazy idea really didn't work...   so,I cropped it back to it's original size. it is a 12" x 16" painted on arches (cold pressed) and it was finished sometime on Nov.-Dec. Untitled

This is the most recent watercolour and it will be the last post of this chaotic 2016!
I (unfortunately) didn't get to paint much but I did get to paint a few pieces that I'm happy with.
this is a set up with a few things that I bought at the antiques fair that comes to town the second Sunday of every month.
I found the rusty vase and the small cooper  piece  very attractive and bought them for my collection of  things I could use for painting...
I'm very satisfied with this painting but I also have to admit that I wasn't careful enough planning   and that's why it ended up square!
I'm seriously considering this painting  for the up to 3 paintings that we are allowed to show in the SCWS this coming 2017.
it measures 15"x14"  it was painted on arches (cold pressed) and it was finished on Dec. the 12th '16

this is a favorite of mine..
A watercolour that maybe a little bit difficult to understand...
I think that someone who creates should put in paper or canvas his (her) craziest ideas.
I wanted to paint a light bulb for a while but didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do.
then one day, going through my photos I saw a little Yellow bud and I immediately knew what was I going to use it for.
I had this hand made paper that was given to me and found a few round pieces and decided to use one of those.
I was a very motivated and inspired when I painted this and for somereason,I love this painting!
it is a small watercolor and I hope to get it framed soon.
I hope to include this piece for the next SCWS show.
I finished this on Nov.the 2nd '16

this is something that I painted  a month or so ago...
I thought that I'd do something else to it,maybe adding a little bit more of color to the flower...
it didn't look well since I started it,for some reason the sketch was a little bit difficult and I actually had to leave two more roses out.
I just wasn't to excited from the beginning,I started with the rose and then I went crazy splashing colors  and adding water to keep the paper really wet,I just let the paint do "his" thing. I've been looking at it for more than a month and decided to leave as it is...
I used hot pressed (arches) and I used a whole 14"x20"  but I had to crop it because there were areas that didn't look right.
it is not dated, but finished it sometime in October. '16

Aimee's still life

This is a watercolor that I painted not long ago.
It was a still life for our group of watercolourist's,we meet every Tuesday and we paint the first and the third Tuesday of the month.
I usually draw, because I'm not a quick painter and I think I'll get nervous if I'd have to paint in public (LOL)
This was Aimee's  still life,I think that I did  a pencil drawing that day but I took several  photographs.
as I always do,I downloaded the photos to my computer and eliminate the ones that I don't like.
most of the photos were similar but this was my favorite.
I took me a while but I finally decided to give it a try,I thin that I wasn't careful enough and my sketch was just a little bit bigger that I wanted...but I decided to paint it anyway.
it wasn't as difficult as I thought but there are a few details I would've done a little bit different, too late now.
But I have to say that I'm very pleased with it,Maybe I'll give it another try.
it was painted on Arches (cold pressed) and it measures 16"x12" inches.
it was painted on July the 12th. '16.
